If \(p\) is a prime \(\equiv 1 \bmod 4\), a rank 2 reflexive sheaf on \({\mathbb{P}}_{p-1} ({\mathbb{C}})\) is constructed. For \(p = 5\) the construction yields the Horrocks-Mumford bundle [see \textit{G. Horrocks} and \textit{D. Mumford}, Topology 12, 63-81 (1973; Zbl 0255.14017)]. The sheaf constructed for \(p > 5\) admits a group of symmetries of order \(p^{(p+3)/2} (p - 1)\). (When \(p = 5\) the full symmetry group has order \(p^{(p+3)/2} (p^ 2-1) = 15000\). For \(p > 5\) the size of the full symmetry group is not known.) For \(p > 5\) the sheaf is not a bundle because of a singularity in codimension 4. The construction depends on certain graphs whose vertices are elements of the finite field \({\mathbb{F}}_ p\) and their edges are given by quadratic residue properties; there is also a connection with certain \(K_ 3\) surfaces defined over \({\mathbb{F}}_ p\). It will be interesting to see to what extent the remarkable properties of the Horrocks-Mumford bundle generalize to these new sheaves.
