Let \(\Omega\) be a bounded domain in \(\mathbb{C}^ n\) with \(C^ \infty\) smooth boundary; it is not necessarily a domain of holomorphy. The author calls a boundary point \(p\) an extreme boundary point of \(\Omega\) if 1) there exists a bounded pseudoconvex domain \(D\) containing \(\Omega\) such that the boundaries of \(D\) and \(\Omega\) agree near \(p\), and 2) \(p\) is a point of finite type. Using the method of comparison of domains, the author shows that the Bergman projection for \(\Omega\) is locally regular near extreme boundary points. More precisely if a function in \(L^ 2(\Omega)\) has a certain number of derivatives that are square-integrable in a neighborhood of an extreme boundary point, then the Bergman projection of the function has the same number of derivatives square-integrable in a (smaller) neighborhood of the point.
