This article introduces a new class of ring extensions, called strongly normalizing extensions. They are defined to be extensions \(R\subseteq S\) such that \(S\) is generated as (left or right) \(R\)-module by elements \(n\in S\) satisfying \(Rn=nR\) and \(RrnR=RnrR\) for all \(r\in R\). Examples include centralizing extensions of rings as well as normalizing extensions (in the usual sense) where \(R\) is a simple ring. The main focus of the article is on the localization theory, classical and abstract, of strongly normalizing extensions. For example, it is shown that if \(S\) is Noetherian as a left \(R\)-module and if \(X\) is any collection of prime ideals of \(R\) such that \(C=\{r\in R\mid r\) is regular modulo every \(P\in X\}\) is a left Ore subset of \(R\) then \(C\) is also left Ore in \(S\), and one has a strongly normalizing extension of localizations \(C^{-1}R\subseteq C^{-1}S\).
