In the paper, the following theorem is proved: Let \(M\) be an \(n\)- dimensional \((n \geq 3)\) complex Riemannian manifold with non flat holomorphic characteristic connection. Then \(M\) is holomorphically projective equivalent to a locally symmetric space iff either a) \(M\) is locally holomorphic isometric to the complex sphere \(\mathbb{C} S^ n\) in \(\mathbb{C}^ n\); or b) \(M\) is locally conformal to the complex sphere \(\mathbb{C} S^ n\) in \(\mathbb{C}^ n\) or to the flat space \(\mathbb{C}^ n\). This assertion is an analogue of the theorems of N. S. Sinyukov (for geodesic mappings), of \textit{T. Sakaguchi} [Hokkaido Math. J. 33, No. 2, 203-212 (1974; Zbl 0305.53024)], \textit{V. V. Domashev} and \textit{J. Mikeš} [Mat. Zametki 23, 297-303 (1978; Zbl 0379.53035)] (for holomorphically projective mappings of Kählerian spaces), of \textit{I. N. Kurbatova} [Depos. VINITI No. 2429-79, 1979, 29 p.] (for hyperbolic Kählerian spaces), see \textit{N. S. Sinyukov} [Geodesic mappings of Riemannian spaces, Moscow: Nauka (1979; Zbl 0637.53020); and Itogi Nauki Tekh., Ser. Probl. Geom. 13, 3-26 (1982; Zbl 0498.53010)]. (Later the last two results were reproved by M. Prvanović). Lemma 1 is proved by the method of N. S. Sinyukov and can be formulated for symmetric, but also for semisymmetric manifolds.
