    Let \(1 = c_ 0 > c_ 1 > \cdots > c_ n \to 0\), and let \(F\) be the piecewise linear map of \([0,1]\) into itself with \(F(x) = (x - c_ 1)/ \psi_ 0\) for \(x \in (c_ 1, c_ 0]\), and \(F(x) = (x - c_{n + 1})/ \psi_ n + c_ n\) for \(x \in (c_{n + 1}, c_ n]\). Here \(\psi_ 0 = c_ 0 - c_ 1\), and \(\psi_ n = (c_ n - c_{n + 1})/(c_{n - 1} - c_ n)\) for \(n \geq 1\). This mapping has been studied by Y. Takahashi in some situations and it is studied in more general situations here. When \(F'(0)>1\), the decay rate of the correlation is of exponential order and a central limit theorem (CLT) holds. When \(F(x) - x \sim x^ \alpha\) and \(\alpha < 5/3\) the decay rate is of polynomial order, nevertheless the CLT still holds. When \(5/3 \leq \alpha < 2\) the CLT does not hold. Finally, when \(\alpha \geq 2\), the dynamical system has a \(\sigma\)-finite invariant measure.
