The main theorem generalizes a result of \textit{E. Psomopoulos} [Glasn. Mat., III. Ser. 20, 7-14 (1985; Zbl 0587.16021)]. Assume that \(R\) is a unitary ring, and \(n > 1\), \(m > 0\), \(k \geq 0\), and \(n\) and \(m\) are relatively prime integers. The result of E. Psomopoulos states that if \(R\) satisfies the identities \(x^ k [x^ n, y] = [x, y^ m]\), \((xy)^ n = x^ n y^ n\), \((xy)^ k = x^ k y^ k\), then \(R\) is commutative. The author of the present paper proves that the last two identities are superfluous. Namely if \(R\) satisfies the identity \(x^ k [x^ n, y] = [x, y^ m]\) then \(R\) is commutative. In addition it is shown that both the relative primeness of \(m\) and \(n\), and the existence of a unity in \(R\) are essential.
