The algorithm of \textit{J. A. C. Weideman} and \textit{A. Cloot} [Comput. Methods Appl. Mech. Eng. 80, No. 1-3, 467-481 (1990; Zbl 0732.65095) and J. Comput. Phys. 102, No. 2, 398-406 (1992; Zbl 0760.65095)] for spectral methods to an infinite interval is analyzed for its efficiency. As a final conclusion it is noted that the Sinh-mapping is always superior to algebraic mappings for functions with singularities in the finite \(Z\)- plane and it is also superior for entire functions in some respects. No rigorous proofs are given but a number of open questions are asked.
