For a fuzzy topological space \((X,\tau)\), the authors define a mapping \(\Phi: I^ X\to I^ X\), called an operation on \(I^ X\), iff \((\forall \mu\in I^ X)\) \((\text{int} (\mu)\subseteq \mu^ \Phi)\), where \(\mu^ \Phi\) denotes the value of \(\Phi\) in \(\mu\). The class of operations on \(I^ X\) is denoted by \(O_{I(X,\tau)}\). With the help of such \(\Phi\), the authors define \(\Phi\)-open fuzzy sets which generalize the class of all open, semi-open, pre-open, semi pre- open and feebly open fuzzy sets defined earlier by others. Starting with two operations \(\Phi_ 1\) and \(\Phi_ 2\) the authors define the concepts of \(\Phi_{1,2}\)-closure (\(\Phi_{1,2}\)-interior) of fuzzy sets that generalize different types of closures, introduced earlier, and also some types of fuzzy separation axioms. For \(\Phi_ 1=\text{int}\) and arbitrary \(\Phi_ 2\), the authors obtain several interesting results.
