The author is concerned with the Cauchy problem: \(dy/dt + A_ hy = f_ h(t)\), \(0 < t < \infty\), \(y(0) = y_{0h}\), where \(h\) is a parameter, \(E_ h\) are Banach spaces, unknown \(y\) and given \(f_ h\) are functions with values in \(E_ h\) and \(A_ h\) are bounded linear operators operating in \(E_ h\). For this abstract differential problem the author proposes a rather general difference scheme with step \(\tau > 0\). Assuming \(A\)-stability of this discretization and some requirements on the operators \(A_ h\) (for instance so-called uniformly -- with respect to \(h\) -- almost positiveness) he obtains existence, uniqueness and a priori estimates for the solutions of the above difference problem in norms of the spaces \(E_ h\). Next, he carefully investigates many particular cases of the general situation, which belong to the class of \(\nu\)-stage Runge-Kutta methods. They are namely families of \(\nu\)-stage methods of Gauss- Legendre, Radau I A, Radau II A, Lobatto III A, Lobatto III B and Lobatto III C. It turns out that also the method of \textit{V. A. Vinokurov} and \textit{N. V. Yuvchenko} [Dokl. Akad. Nauk SSSR 284, No. 2, 272-277 (1985; Zbl 0607.65042)], which does not belong to the class of Runge-Kutta ones, can be included in the author's considerations. In the final section the author applies his abstract developments to the operator \[ -d(a(x) d/dx)dx+c(x) \] on the interval (0,1) with boundary conditions of the first kind at points 0 and 1. The grid is non-uniform with respect to \(x\). The author proves unique solvability to difference schemes and gives a priori estimates for solutions of these ones in spaces \(L_{ph}\), \(1 \leq p \leq \infty\), which are discrete analogues of spaces \(L_ p\).
