A combination of the ``method of generations'' and the ``Monte Carlo method for Green's function'' is used to compute the first eigenvalue of the Dirichlet problem for a class of selfadjoint elliptic operators. An estimate is constructed which has a systematic error of the order of \(N^{-1}\), where \(N\) is the number of particles in the method of generations.
