Let \(A\) be the affine group of dimension \(n\) over the finite field \(\mathbb{F}_ q\) with \(q\) elements. It is the semi-direct product of \(G = \text{GL}(n,q)\) with the translation group. We take the standard Borel subgroup \(B\) of \(G\) and obtain two Hecke algebras. The smaller one, say \({\mathcal H}(G,B)\), has a basis over the complex numbers indexed by the double cosets \(BgB\) of \(B\) in \(G\). The larger one, say \({\mathcal H}(A,B)\), uses the double cosets of \(B\) in \(A\). The irreducible representations of \({\mathcal H}(G,B)\) are known and indexed by the partitions \(\lambda\) of \(n\). The author now constructs the irreducible representations of \({\mathcal H}(A,B)\) in terms of these known representations. It turns out that there is one irreducible representation of \({\mathcal H}(A,B)\) for each \((\mu,k)\) where \(\mu\) is a partition of \(k\) and \(0 \leq k \leq n\). (So the Hecke algebra of \(\text{GL}(k,q)\) comes in for all these \(k\).) The constructions are quite explicit. Earlier [ibid. 151, 86-104 (1992)] the author had described the characters of the representations that he constructs here.
