The paper is devoted to the problem concerning the distribution of the zeros of the functions \[ F(z)= \int^ a_{-a} e^{izt} d\sigma(t),\quad 0<a<\infty,\quad\text{var }\sigma<\infty.\tag{1} \] The function \(\alpha(x)\) is called slowly varying if it is positive and measurable on some half-line \(x\geq x_ 0\) and if for arbitrary \(\lambda>0\), \(\alpha(\lambda x)/\alpha(x)\to 1\) when \(x\to \infty\). One of the main results is the following Theorem 1. Let \(\alpha(x)\) \((x\geq 0)\) be a slowly varying function that is bounded on each finite interval. In order for a function of the form (1) to exist and have no zeros in the set \(| y|\leq \alpha(| x|)| x|\), \(-\infty< x<+\infty\), it is necessary and sufficient that \(\int^ \infty_ 1 (\alpha(x)/x)dx< \infty\). Other results concern the zeros of the Fourier cosine and sine transform of an integrable function concentrated in (0,1).
