    The author proves the following result. Let \(A_ 1\) and \(A_ 2\) be positive definite self-adjoint operators in a Hilbert space \(H\). Suppose that the operator \(A= A_ 1+ A_ 2\) is self-adjoint in \(D(A_ 1)\cap D(A_ 2)\). Then for every natural \(n\geq 1\) we have the bound \[ \|\exp(- tA)- (V_ i(t/n))^ n\|\leq c\log n/\sqrt n,\quad i= 1,2,3,4, \] where \(\|\|\) is the norm on \(H\), \(t\geq 0\), and for \(i= 1,2\) it is additionally assumed that \(D(A_ 1)\subset D(A_ 2)\). Here the following notations are used \(V_ 1= U_ 2(t) U_ 1(t)\), \(V_ 2(t)= T_ 1(t)\), \(U_ s(t)= \exp(- tA_ s)\), \(T_ s(t)= U_ s(t/2) U_{3- s}(t) U_ s(t/2)\), \(s= 1,2\); \(2V_ 3(t)= T_ 1(t)+ T_ 2(t)\), \(2V_ 4(t)= U_ 1(2t)+ U_ 2(2t)\).
