The author continues his previous study on the stable derived category \(\overline {D}^ b (A)\) of a finite-dimensional self-injective algebra \(A\) [J. Algebra 157, 430-452 (1993; Zbl 0789.16011), and ibid. 157, 116- 127 (1993; Zbl 0793.16004)]. In the first section it is shown that \(\overline {D}^ b (A)\) can be defined by localizing with respect to the maps that induce stable isomorphisms on cohomology which gives a different but equivalent construction of this category than considered before. In the remaining part the author studies Auslander-Reiten triangles in the stable derived category. The main results are the following. An indecomposable object in \(\overline {D}^ b (A)\) determines an Auslander-Reiten triangle if and only if it is isomorphic to a bounded complex of projective modules. Denote by \(\overline{C}^ b( {\mathcal P}_ A)\) the full subcategory consisting of all such objects. Then all components of the Auslander-Reiten quiver of \(\overline{C}^ b( {\mathcal P}_ A)\) are of type \(\mathbb{Z} A_ \infty\). Finally, there is a close connection between \(\overline {C}^ b ({\mathcal P}_ A)\) and \(K^ b({\mathcal P}_ A)\), the homotopy category of bounded complexes of projective modules, which allows the component structure of the Auslander-Reiten quiver of that category to be determined, too.
