The aim of this paper is to give a complete list of the conjugacy classes of elementary abelian 5-subgroups of the Monster simple group. There are four of order \(5^ 4\) and eight of order \(5^ 3\), as well as the well- known seven of order \(5^ 2\) -- see for example the reviewer's paper [J. Aust. Math. Soc., Ser. A 44, No. 1, 1-16 (1988; Zbl 0636.20014)] -- and two of order 5. Some information about inclusions amongst these subgroups is also given. The proof is obtained by detailed calculations in the two maximal subgroups \(5^{2+2+4}(S_ 3 \times GL_ 2(5))\) and \(5^{1+6}2J_ 22\) of the Monster. Perhaps the most interesting part is the construction of the former subgroup in terms of a `code loop', somewhat analogous to \textit{J. H. Conway's} construction of the subgroup \(2^ 2 2^{11} 2^{22}(M_{24}\times S_ 3)\) in terms of Parker's loop of order \(2^{13}\) [Invent. Math. 79, 513-540 (1985; Zbl 0564.20010)].
