An algebra \(A\) is called completely separating if every convex subalgebra of \(A\) satisfies the so-called (s)-condition [see \textit{R. Bautista} and \textit{F. Larrión}, J. Lond. Math. Soc., III. Ser. 264, 43-52 (1982; Zbl 0501.16030)]. The aim of this paper is to present the basic properties and characterization of completely separating algebras. The main motivation to study them came from an attempt to extend a criterion for checking finiteness of type to the tame situation. It is proven that a completely separating algebra can be written as a factor algebra of the incidence algebra \(k[s]\) of a finite poset \(S\) by an admissible ideal of \(k[S]\). The author then considers the question of deciding whether a given algebra \(A\) is completely separating and it turns out that certain subalgebras of \(A\) which are of the form \(k[S]\), where \(S\) is a poset, play an important role. The last section is intended to adapt to completely separating algebras results already known for critical and hypercritical good algebras.
