Several results concerning power moments of \(|\zeta(1/2+it)|\) over short intervals are proved. Let \(T<t_ 1<t_ 2<\dots< t_ R\leq 2T\), \(t_{r+1}- t_ r\geq\Delta\) \((r=1,\dots, R-1)\), \(1\ll \Delta\leq {1\over 4}T\). If \(k\) is a fixed natural number and \(A\geq 1\) a fixed real constant, then \[ \sum_{r=1}^ R \Biggl( \int_{t_ r} ^{t_ r+\Delta} |\zeta(1/2+it)|^{2k} dt\Biggr)^ A\;\ll\;R\Delta ^ A (\log T)^{Ak^ 2}+ T^{c(k,A)} \Delta^{-1} (\log T)^{d(k,A)}, \] where \(c(k,A)\) \((>1)\) and \(d(k,A)\) \((\geq 0)\) are constants such that \[ \int_ 0^ T | E_ k(t)|^ A dt\;\ll\;T^{c(k,A)}(\log T)^{d(k,A)}, \] and \(E_ k(T)\) is the error term in the asymptotic formula for \(\int_ 0^ T |\zeta (1/2+it)|^{2k} dt\). Also for suitable \(C>0\) \[ \sum_{r=1}^ R E_ 2^ 2(t_ r)\;\ll\;(T^ 2\Delta^{-1}+ R\Delta^ 2) \log^ C T \] and \[ \sum_{r=1}^ R\;\int_{t_ r}^{t_ r+ \Delta} | \zeta(1/2+it)|^{2q} dt\;\ll\;(R\Delta^{{1\over 2}q}+ T^{{1\over 2}q} R^{1-{1\over 4}q} \Delta^{-{1\over 4}q})\log^{C_ q} T \] for a fixed real \(q\) satisfying \(2\leq q\leq 4\) and \(C_ q>0\). Recently \textit{Y. Motohashi} and the author [``The mean square of the error term for the fourth power moment of the zeta-function'', to appear in Proc. Lond. Math. Soc.] proved that \(c(2,2)=2\), while results on \(c(1,A)\) may be found in Chapter 15 of the author's monograph [``The Riemann zeta-function'' (Wiley 1985; Zbl 0556.10026)].
