Let \(M\) be a compact, pseudoconvex, three-dimensional CR manifold of finite type. The author shows that various operators naturally connected to \(M\) possess a very rich structure, when represented as pseudodifferential operators. The paper concerns three operators: the Szegö projection \(S_ 1\) onto the kernel of \(\overline \partial_ b\), the projection \(S_ 2\) onto the kernel of \(\overline\partial^*_ b\) and the relative inverse \(P\) for \(\overline \partial_ b\), such that \(P \overline \partial_ b = I - S_ 1\) and \(\overline \partial_ b P = I - S_ 2\) (under the closed range hypothesis for \(\overline \partial_ b)\); each of these is constructed as a pseudodifferential operator and this representation is natural in local exponential coordinates. One shows that the symbol of each operator admits a full asymptotic expansion, of which the terms are homogeneous functions of certain Levi invariants, where the homogeneity is with respect to a natural family of nonisotropic dilations. The principal symbols of the inverses of \(\overline \partial_ b\) and \(\square_ b\), at a given point \(x \in M\), are given by the exact inverse of the corresponding operator on a certain model domain attached to \(x\). In the algebra of pseudodifferential operators, on the level of principal symbols, composition of operators at a point is given by composition on the attached model domain. Finally, upper bounds on the associated singular integral kernels are obtained.
