Let \(G\) be a finite group, \(k\) a field. \(G\) is said to be regular over \(k\) if \(G\) can be realized as the Galois group of an extension \(L\) of a rational function field \(k(t)\) in one variable, where \(L\) is a regular extension of \(k\) (\(k\) is algebraically closed in \(L\)). If the Schur multiplier of a finite group \(G\) is non-trivial, then \(G\) admits non- trivial stemcovers \(E\); these are groups which are non-split central extensions of \(G\) by \(M(G)\). In this paper it is proved that the stemcovers of the groups \(PGl_ n(q)\) or \(PGSp_{2n} (q)\), \(n\geq 2\), \(q\) a power of a prime \(p\), are regular over \(\mathbb{Q}_{ab}\), the maximal abelian extensions of \(\mathbb{Q}\).
