The theory for poles and zeros of (singular) systems has many points of view. Here, the author connects different viewpoints. On the one hand, there is the module theory and on the other hand, there is the invariant subspace theory. It is shown that the images of two mappings that arise within the module theory equal special invariant subspaces. These invariant subspaces are limit spaces of a fundamental chain associated with the matrix pencil.
