Let \(R\) be a quasi-Frobenius ring. A conjecture of \textit{H. Tachikawa} [Quasi-Frobenius rings and generalizations (Lect. Notes Math. 351, 1973; Zbl 0271.16004)] states that for every finitely generated non-projective \(R\)-module \(M\), \(\text{Ext}^ i_ R(M,M) \neq 0\) for some \(i \geq 1\). In the paper it is proved that the conjecture holds for a special class of rings as stated in the following Theorem which generalizes a former result of \textit{M. Hoshino} [Arch. Math. 43, 493-500 (1984; Zbl 0547.16014)]: Theorem: Let \(R\) be a local quasi-Frobenius ring with \((\text{rad }R)^ 3 = 0\). Let \(D = R/\text{rad }R\) and assume that for every \(a \in \text{rad }R/(\text{rad }R)^ 2\) the centralizer \(C_ D(a)\) of \(a\) in \(D\) has finite right index \(| D : C_ D(a)|\). Then \(\text{Ext}^ 1_ R(M,M) \neq 0\) for every non-projective \(R\)- module \(M\).
