On the automorphisms of surfaces of general type in positive characteristic. II (Q1330272)

This note is a sequel to part I [ibid. 4, No. 2, 121-129 (1993; Zbl 0795.14022)]. Again, minimal surfaces of general type over an algebraically closed field \(K\) of characteristic \(p > 0\) are considered. It is shown that the order of a \(p\)-subgroup of the reduced automorphism group of such a surface \(X\) is bounded by \(D \cdot (K^2_X)^6\) with a constant \(D\) which is independent of \(p\). Using an example of \textit{W. Lang} [in: Arithmetic and Geometry, Pap. dedic. I. R. Shafarevich, Vol. II, Prog. Math. 36, 167-173 (1983; Zbl 0576.14039)] the author then shows that no similar polynomial bound can hold for the dimension (as \(K\)-vector space) of the structure sheaf of the group scheme \(\text{Aut} (X)\).
