    The paper gives an unified vector-space approach to formalize and investigate notions of observability and left-invertibility for both linear and nonlinear systems. The construction of a reduced inverse system is based on intrinsic invariants reflecting some observability properties. Discussions and some examples illustrating the obtained results are also presented.
