For each Hopf algebra \(A\), the Drinfeld double \(D(A)\) and the Heisenberg double \(H(A)\), are of particular importance in the theory of quantum groups: each quantum group associated to a classical group is ``almost'' a Drinfeld double of a smaller (solvable) quantum group, and the Heisenberg double of a quantum group plays the role of the algebra of quantum differential operators. Take \(R\) to be the identity Hopf algebra \(T(A) = A^{\text{op}} \otimes_ R A^*\). Then the Drinfeld double \(D(A)\) of \(A\) is defined as the dual Hopf algebra of \(T(A)\). The Heisenberg double \(H(A)\) of \(A\) is by definition the smash product \(A \# A^*\) with respect to the left regular action of \(A^*\) on \(A\). The author relates the two doubles by showing that \(H(A)\) is the left twist of \(D(A)^*\) by a natural 2- cocycle and that \(H(A^*)\) is the right twist of \(D(A)\) by a natural 2- cocycle. Consequently, \(H(A)\) is naturally a right \(D(A)^*\)-comodule algebra and \(H(A^*)\) is naturally a left \(D(A)\)-comodule algebra.
