Directed distances with derivatives (Q1332201)

The authors discuss minimum distance approaches for the reconstruction of real functions from a finite number of linear functions. They extend the theory to the case in which the distance may depend on derivatives of the functions in question. Thus they generalize for instance results of \textit{L. Jones} and \textit{C. Byrne} [IEEE Trans. Inf. Theory 36, No. 1, 23-30 (1990; Zbl 0731.62016)] and \textit{L. Jones} and \textit{V. Trutzer} [Inverse Probl. 5, 749-766 (1989; Zbl 0701.62016)].
