The authors study the Feynman path integral starting with infinite- dimensional oscillatory (Fresnel) integrals. Recently developed approximation techniques via finite-dimensional oscillatory integrals is applied to obtain new results on the asymptotics of Feynman integrals. Then applications are given to the study of the trace of the time evolution operator in quantum mechanics and to interpretation of ``Gutzwiller trace formula''.
