The third volume of the ``Handbook of Numerical Analysis'' (see Zbl 0689.65001 and Zbl 0712.65091) for Vol. I and for Vol. II, respectively) contains three different fields in the Numerical Analysis: I. Techniques of Scientific Computing (Part 1); II. Numerical Methods for Solids (Part 1); III. Solution of Equations in \(\mathbb{R}^ n\) (Part 2). Part I: ``Techniques of Scientific Computing (Part 1)'' consists of the following three self-contained papers on several aspects of the interpolation and approximation theories: ``Historical perspective on interpolation, approximation and quadrature'' by \textit{C. Brezinski} (pp. 3-46); ``Padé approximation'' by \textit{C. Brezinski} and \textit{J. Van Iseghem} (pp. 47-222); ``Approximation and interpolation theory'' by \textit{Bl. Sendov} and \textit{A. Andreev} (pp. 223-462). Part II: ``Numerical Methods for Solids (Part 1)'' contains one article on ``Numerical methods for nonlinear three-dimensional elasticity'' written by \textit{P. Le Tallec} (pp. 465-622). Finally, Part III: ``Solution of Equations in \(\mathbb{R}^ n\) (Part 2)'' provides a review of ``Numerical solution of polynomial equations'' given by \textit{Bl. Sendov}, \textit{A. Andreev} and \textit{N. Kjurkchiev} (pp. 223- 462).
