Several comparison results for a nonlinear partial difference equation of the order \(n+m\) in two independent variables, \(\Delta^ n_ x \Delta^ m_ y u(x,y)= g(x,y,u)\), together with appropriate initial and periodic boundary conditions, are established. These results are then used to provide sufficient conditions for the convergence of monotone iterative methods.
