Numerical solution of quadratic boundary value problems (Q1334735)

This paper considers the theoretical solution and the numerical solution of differential equations of the form \(-\varepsilon u''+ a(x,u)(u')^ 2+ b(x,u)u'+ c(x,u)= 0\) with various boundary conditions, but mainly for specified values of \(u\) at 0 and 1. For the latter boundary conditions a theorem for a unique solution is established. The discretization of the general problem is considered, with a convergence theorem and particular attention is given to the case where \(a\) is constant and \(b= b(x)\). Example calculations are given when \(\varepsilon=1\) and when \(\varepsilon\) is small.
