    The present paper is one of a series of papers concerned with this topic [for part III cf. the preceding review Zbl 0832.20012]. The aim of this paper is to give an explicit description of the blocks of the Schur algebras \(S(n,r)\) over a field \(K\) of characteristic \(p > 0\). Considering the category of \(S(n,r)\)-modules is equivalent to the category of modules for the general linear group \(\text{GL} (n)\) over \(K\), which are polynomials of degree \(r\), the irreducible modules for \(S(n,r)\) can be labelled by partitions \(\lambda = (\lambda_1, \lambda_2, \dots, \lambda_n)\) of \(r\) into at most \(n\) parts, and a block can be identified with a subset of the set \(\Lambda^+(n,r)\) of all partitions of \(r\) into at most \(n\) parts. For \(\lambda = (\lambda_1, \lambda_2, \dots, \lambda_n) \in \Lambda^+ (n,r)\) the author defines \(d(\lambda) = \max \{d \geq 0 : \lambda_i - \lambda_{i + 1} \equiv - 1\pmod{p^d}\) for all \(1 \leq i \leq n\}\), and shows that two partitions \(\lambda = (\lambda_1,\lambda_2,\dots, \lambda_n)\) and \(\mu = (\mu_1,\mu_2,\dots, \mu_n)\) in \(\lambda^+(n,r)\) lie in the same block if and only if \(d(\lambda) = d(\mu) = d\), say, and there exists a permutation \(\pi \in S_n\) such that \(\lambda_i - i \equiv \mu_{\pi(i)} - \pi(i)\) (modulo \(p^{d+1})\) for all \(1 \leq i \leq n\).
