    The author continues the research on the structure of a group admitting a certain group of automorphisms with certain properties. More precisely he tries to extend certain results proved earlier for finite groups by \textit{J. N. Ward} [J. Aust. Math. Soc. 6, 480-494 (1966; Zbl 0144.264), ibid. 9, 467-477 (1969; Zbl 0182.039)] to periodic groups. Thus he proves: Let \(p\) be a prime, \(G\) a periodic solvable \(p'\)-group admitting an elementary automorphism group \(V\) of order \(p^ 2\). Suppose that \(C_ G(V)\) (the subgroup of fixed points of \(V\)) for every nontrivial element \(v \in V\) is abelian. Then \(G'\), the derived group of \(G\) is nilpotent. Here he gives also an upper bound for the nilpotency class of \(G'\). The other main result concerns the case where \(p = 2\): Let \(G\) be a periodic solvable \(2'\)-group admitting a four-group of automorphisms \(V\). Suppose that \(C_ G(v)\) is nilpotent for every nontrivial element \(v \in V\). Then \(G\) is metanilpotent.
