A topological embedding \(f: \Sigma\to \mathbb{R}^ n\) of a subset \(\Sigma\subset\mathbb{R}^ n\) is called a free \(k\)-quasisymmetry if \({1\over k}\leq {| f(x)- f(y)|\over | f(u)- f(v)|}\leq k\), where \(k\in [1,\infty]\), for all \(x,y,u,v\in \Sigma\) such that \(| x- y|= | u- v|\) and \(x\neq y\). The author establishes that a free quasisymmetry may transform a segment onto a non-rectifiable curve. In general, the inverse of a free quasisymmetry is not again a free quasisymmetry. In order to preserve category-theoretic properties, \textit{P. Tukia} and \textit{J. Väisälä} [Ann. Acad. Sci. Fenn., Ser. A I, 5, 97-114 (1980; Zbl 0443.54011)] introduced the concept of \(\eta\)- quasisymmetric embedding with distortion \(\eta\). By the same model, according to the author, a topological embedding \(f: \Sigma\to \mathbb{R}^ n\) is said to be \(\eta\)-homogeneous if \({| f(x)- f(y)|\over | f(u)- f(v)|}\leq \eta\left({| x-y|\over| u-v|}\right)\) for all \(x,y,u,v\in \Sigma\), where \(u\neq v\) and a distortion function is a homeomorphism \(\eta\) of the semi-axis \([0,\infty]\) onto itself. The author shows that the inverse of an \(\eta\)-homeomorphic embedding \(f: \Sigma\to \mathbb{R}^ n\) is \(\widetilde\eta\)-homeomorphic, where \(\widetilde\eta(t)= [\eta^{-1}(t^{-1})]^{-1}\). He also studies other properties of \(\eta\)-homogeneous embeddings.
