Let \(E\) be an elliptic curve defined over the number field \(K\), and let \(\chi\) be a quadratic character unramified over the places of \(K\) dividing 2 and over the places of bad reduction of \(E\). Further, denote by \(E^\chi\) the twisted curve, and let \({\mathfrak D} (E|K)\) be the minimal discriminant of \(E/K\). \textit{J. H. Silverman} discovered [Mathematika 31, 245-251 (1984; Zbl 0565.14018)] the relation \({\mathfrak D} (E^\chi |K) ={\mathfrak D}^6 (\chi) \cdot {\mathfrak D} (E|K)\), where \({\mathfrak D} (\chi)\) is the discriminant of the quadratic extension of \(K\). If the ramification condition on \(\chi\) is lifted, and \(\chi\) is ramified at the finite place \(\nu \) of \(K\), then Silverman's relation needs a correction factor. The author defines \[ 12h_\nu = \nu \bigl({\mathfrak D} (E|K) \bigr)+ 6\nu \bigl({\mathfrak D} (\chi)\bigr) -\nu \bigl({\mathfrak D} (E^\chi |K) \bigr). \] Most of the remainder of the paper is devoted to the calculation of \(h_\nu\) and the description of the type of the special fibre of the \(\nu\)-minimal, \(\nu\)-regular model of \(E^\chi\). Finally, the author gives a description of the relationship between the geometric conductors of \(E\) and its twist \(E^\chi\).
