The title of this paper is somewhat missleading because the main aim of the author is to give some sufficient conditions in order that the two- point boundary value problems \(x''+ f(t,x)= 0\), \(x(0)= 0\), \(\lambda x(1)+ \mu x'(1)=0\) and \(x''+ {c'(t)\over c(t)} x'+ f(t,x)= 0\), \(x'(0)= x(1)= 0\) have (unique) solutions. Here \(f: (0,1)\times (0,\infty)\to (0,\infty)\) and \(c(t)\in C^ 0[0,1]\cap C^ 1(0,1)\) are certain given functions while \(\lambda\geq 0\) and \(\mu\geq 0\) are given constants such that \(\lambda+ \mu>0\). One of the basic assumptions is that \(f(t,x)\) is a continuous function which does not have a continuous extension to \([0,1]\times [0,\infty)\) (the case of singular boundary value problem). The main results are stated in four theorems which are based on several other propositions, theorems and corollaries.
