The main result of the paper states that for a commutative Noetherian ring \(R\) there exists a nonzero finitely generated \(R\)-module of finite injective dimension if and only if \(R_ m\) is a Cohen-Macaulay ring for some maximal ideal \(m\) of \(R\).
