A subset \(S\) of a topological space \(X\) is called semi-preopen if there exists a preopen set \(U\) such that \(U \subseteq S \subseteq \text{cl} U\). In this paper the author uses the notion of semi-preopen sets in order to characterize some already known classes of topological spaces (extremally disconnected spaces, PS-spaces, irreducible PS-spaces, lightly compact spaces, almost regular spaces) and maps between them (almost continuous maps, \(\alpha\)-continuous maps, almost weakly continuous maps, almost closed maps, semi-preclosed maps, quasi- irresolute maps).
