This paper uses Jacobi's triple identity for \(q\)-series to derive a theta-function identity which was checked earlier by \textit{T. Miwa} and \textit{M. Jimbo} [Physica D 15, 335-353 (1985; Zbl 0601.60100)] for special cases. It is also shown that further identities of the paper by Miwa and Jimbo are consequences of more general results.
