Presentations of the special and general linear groups (Q1340264)

The author gives basis free presentations for the special linear group \(\text{SL}_ n(R)\), where \(R\) is a field, and for the general linear group \(\text{GL}_ n(R)\), where \(R\) is a skewfield. She compares her presentations with those given by Böge (1967) and Ellers (1978) for \(\text{SL}_ n(R)\) and \(\text{GL}_ n(R)\), respectively, and comes to the conclusion that her presentations are easier to work with.
