    In this paper the author considers the following Cauchy problem for equations of Schrödinger type: \[ {\partial u \over i \partial t} + {1 \over 2} \sum^ n_{j=1} \left( {\partial u \over i \partial x_ j} - a_ j(x,t) \right)^ 2 + c(x,t) = 0,\quad u(0,x) = u_ 0(x)\tag{*} \] for \(x\in\mathbb{R}^ n\), \(0<t<T\), and he gives a sufficient condition so that the Cauchy problem \((*)\) is well-posed in \(H^ \infty\)-space. This subject was also studied by \textit{W. Ichinose} [Commun. Partial Differ. Equations 9, 33-48 (1984; Zbl 0563.35066)] and \textit{J. Takeuchi} [C. R. Acad. Sci., Paris, S er. I 312, No. 4, 341-344 (1991; Zbl 0803.35119)]. In his previous paper [Tsukuba J. Math. 16, No. 1, 235-256 (1992; Zbl 0784.35018)], the author gave a sufficient condition so that the Cauchy problem \((*)\) is well-posed in \(L^ 2\)-space. As the condition of \(H^ \infty\)-well-posedness is less strict than the one of \(L^ 2\)-well- posedness, he could relax the sufficient condition as follows: Let us write \(a_ j(x,t) = a^ R_ j (x,t) + ia^ I_ j (x,t)\) where \(a^ R_ j(x,t)\) and \(a^ I_ j (x,t)\) are real valued. Suppose that \(| a^ I_ j(x) | \leq C \langle x \rangle^{-1}\) and \(| \partial^ \alpha_ x a_ j(x) | \leq C_ \alpha \langle x \rangle^{-1}\) for \(| \alpha | \geq 1\) \((j = 1,2, \dots, n)\) where \(C\) and \(C_ \alpha\) are positive constants and \(\langle x \rangle = (1 + x^ 2)^{1/2}\), then the Cauchy problem \((*)\) is well -posed in \(H^ \infty\)-space.
