    The author proves that the limiting amplitude principle is valid for the problem \[ \partial^2_t u(t,x) - a(x)^2 \Delta u (t,x) = \exp (- it \sqrt \omega) f(x), \quad u(0, x) = \partial_t u(0,x) = 0 \] with \((t,x) \in \mathbb{R}_+ \times \mathbb{R}^n\), \(n \geq 3\), and \(\omega > 0\). The propagation speed \(a(x)\) is assumed to satisfy the same conditions as in [Tsukuba J. Math. 17, 345-362 (1993)], where the author proves the validity of the principle of limiting absorption for the operator \(L = - a(x)^2 \Delta\). The justification of the limiting amplitude principle is based on the principle of limiting absorption and an estimate for the behavior of the resolvent \(R (\lambda \pm i 0,L)\) for \(\lambda \to 0 +\). The proof of this estimate uses the commutator method of \textit{E. Mourre} [Commun. Math. Phys. 78, 391-408 (1981; Zbl 0489.47010)].
