Let \(V\) be the set of all real-valued functions \(\phi\) on the unit sphere \(S_2\) centered on the origin in \(\mathbb{R}^3\) such that \(\phi(- x)= \phi(x)\) and \(|\phi(x)|\leq 1\) for all \(x\in S_2\). Let \({\mathcal P}(M_2(\mathbb{C}))\) be a lattice of projections of the von Neumann algebra of two-by-two complex matrices \(M_2(\mathbb{C})\). In the article under review, the authors have shown the \(1-1\) correspondence between the set \(V\) and the set of all quantum probability measures on \({\mathcal P}(M_2(\mathbb{C}))\) (the latter are positive functions \(\mu\) on \({\mathcal P}(M_2(\mathbb{C}))\) such that \(\mu(\text{\textbf{1}})= 1\) and \(\mu(p+ e)= \mu(p)+ \mu(e)\) whenever \(pe= 0\)). On the basis of this correspondence it is established that there exist continuous quantum probability measures on \({\mathcal P}(M_2(\mathbb{C}))\) which cannot be extended to be bounded linear functionals on \(M_2(\mathbb{C})\). The authors refer to an article on the Mackey-Gleason problem by \textit{M. S. Matvejchuk} [Finite measures on quantum logics, Proc. of the first Winter School of Measure Theory, Liptovsky, Czechoslovakia, 78-81 (1988)] and point out that this paper does not contain complete proofs. However, the reviewer wishes to point out that complete proofs for JW and \(\text{AW}^*\)-algebras have been presented by \textit{M. S. Matvejchuk} in his D.Sc. Thesis [``Extension of measures on quantum logics of projections'' (Kiev, Ukrainian Acad. of Sci. (1987)] as well as in [\textit{M. S. Matvejchuk}, Linearity of charges on the lattice of projections, Izv. Vyssh. Ucheb. Zav. Mat., No. 9, 48-66 (Russian) (1995)]. The relevant results for von Neumann algebras are to be found in [\textit{M. S. Matvejchuk}, A theorem on states on quantum logic, Teor. Mat. Fiz. 45, No. 2, 244-250 (Russian) (1980; Zbl 0467.46047)] and [\textit{M. S. Matvejchuk}, Funkts. Anal. Prilozh. 15, No. 3, 41-53 (Russian) (1981; Zbl 0487.46039)].
