If \(S_ j x = \rho x + x_ j\), \(0 < \rho < 1\), \(x \in \mathbb{R}^ n\) then the equation \(T = \sum^ N_{j = 1} a_ j T \circ S^{-1}_ j\), with \(\sum^ N_{j = 1} a_ j = 1\), \(a_ j > 0\), which defines a special self-similar measure \(T\) of compact support, can be rewritten as a convolution \(T = \mu * (T \circ S^{-1})\) with \(Sx = \rho x\) and \(\mu(x) = \sum^ N_{j=1} a_ j \delta(x - x_ j)\). If \(\nu\) is the inverse of this \(\mu\), that is \(\mu * \nu = \delta\), furthermore \(\nu_ k = \nu \circ S^{-k}\) and \(\lambda_ k = \nu_ 0 * \nu_ 1 * \dots * \nu_{k-1}\) then \(\lim_{k \to \infty} \lambda_ k * T = \delta\), and a function \(f\) of compact support on \(\mathbb{R}^ n\) can be reconstructed from the given \(T * f\), since in the distribution sense \(\lim_{k \to \infty} \lambda_ k * (T * f) = f\). The author deals also with some number-theoretic conditions to describe those \(T\) which allow a so called fundamental solution \(\lambda\) (measure) of \(\lambda * T = \delta\). Finally, he extends the first recovering problem to certain self-similar measures on Heisenberg groups.
