The author's stated goal is to investigate the two notions, Cohen and random real forcing, and to characterize them within a family of ``nice'' forcing notions. ``Nice'' is interpreted as Souslin. In particular the author proves that any Souslin c.c.c. forcing notion which adds a nondominated real adds a Cohen real. He also proves that any Souslin c.c.c. forcing notion adds a real which is not on any old ``narrow'' tree. This means that every such notion has a property shared by random real forcing and Cohen forcing.
