Let \(G\) be a reductive group defined over the field \(k\) and let \(B\) be a Borel subgroup. The BGG resolution of the trivial module \(k\) in the category \(\mathcal O\) gives a `materialization' of the denominator of the Weyl character formula [\textit{I. N. Bernstein, I. M. Gelfand} and \textit{S. I. Gelfand}, in: Lie Groups Represent. 1971, 21-64 (1975; Zbl 0338.58019)]. Similarly A. V. Zelevinskij and K. Akin constructed a resolution of an irreducible polynomial representation of the general linear group \(\text{GL}(n,\mathbb{C})\) which `realizes' the Jacobi-Trudi expansion [\textit{K. Akin}, J. Algebra 117, 494-503 (1988; Zbl 0668.20033); \textit{A. V. Zelevinskij}, Funkts. Anal. Prilozh. 21, 74-75 (1987; Zbl 0631.17003)]. The author explains nicely how these results are connected by means of yet another resolution, viz. the minimal injective resolution of an irreducible module in the category of rational \(B\)-modules. He uses a duality between Verma modules and minimal injective rational \(B\)- modules, induction from rational \(B\)-modules to rational \(G\)-modules, `Donkin' truncation in a highest weight category structure due to the reviewer, as modified by D. J. Woodcock.
