The main result says that any transversely orientable Riemannian foliation \({\mathcal F}\) of an orientable compact manifold \(M\) is minimalizable (that is, \(M\) admits a Riemannian metric w.r.t. which all the leaves of \({\mathcal F}\) are minimal, i.e. have mean curvature zero) provided that \({\mathcal F}\) has a compact leaf \(L\) with nonzero fundamental class \([L] \in H_ * (M)\).
