For a finite quiver \(\Gamma\) and a set \(\rho\) of its finite paths let \(k\Gamma\) be the path \(k\)-algebra of \(\Gamma\), \(I\) the ideal generated by \(\rho\) and \(\Lambda = k\Gamma/I\) a monomial algebra. Put \(\underline{r}\) for the image in \(\Lambda\) of the ideal of \(k\Gamma\) generated by the arrows of \(\Gamma\). The authors show that the cohomology ring \[ \text{Ext}(\Lambda) = \text{Ext}(\Lambda, \underline{r}) = \coprod_{i = 0}^ \infty \text{Ext}_ \Lambda^ i (\Lambda/ \underline{r}, \Lambda/ \underline{r}) \] has a multiplicative \(k\)-basis which is explicitly described. In particular, the result by \textit{J. E. Roos} [Lect. Notes Math. 740, 285-322 (1979; Zbl 0415.13012)] is generalized. A description of \(\text{Ext}(k \Gamma/I)\) in case \(I\) is generated by all the paths of a fixed length is presented as well.
