This paper discusses embeddings of finite graphs in \(\mathbb{R}^3\), (referred to here as spatial graphs), summarising a range of equivalence relations which are in use for such embeddings and noting their interdependence. The author mentions a number of invariants which have been studied for spatial graphs. He gives details of the `topological symmetry group', which takes account of those symmetries of the underlying abstract graph that can be realised by homeomorphisms of the embedded graph in \(\mathbb{R}^3\). The paper finishes with an account of results of Taniyama on two spatial graph invariants, one defined using the coefficient of \(z^2\) in the Conway polynomials of subknots and the other constructed from a diagram of the graph by combining the signs of the crossings with combinatorial information from the abstract graph.
