The paper deals with the existence and the uniqueness of the solutions for a system of reaction-diffusion equations which describes the transport of ionic species in electrochemical reactions at the electrodes. These equations are quasilinear `parabolic' with nonlinear boundary conditions. The paper shows that the problem is well posed provided that the data are sufficiently smooth, the cross-diffusion coefficients are small, and some functions characterizing the system are suitably decreasing. The last section of the paper discusses some open problems.
