This paper is an extension of \textit{Ch. Lubich's} results on Runge-Kutta methods [Integration of stiff mechanical systems by Runge-Kutta methods, Z. Angew. Math. Phys. 44, No. 6, 1022-1053 (1993; Zbl 0784.70002)] to general linear multistep methods applied to stiff mechanical systems, in particular the multistep Radau method and multistep Runge-Kutta methods. The error propagation along the numerical solution of the stiff systems is discussed. Some numerical experiments confirm obtained theoretical results.
