The authors investigate a \((1+d)\) dimensional (\(d\)-brane) thick model with varying cosmological term \(\Lambda\). A generalization of the model to the case of a chain of Ricci-flat internal spaces when the matter source is given as an anisotropic perfect fluid. It is possible that the Standard Model is confined to a \((3 + 1)\) dimensional subspace (3 brane) in the higher dimensions. In articles by \textit{K. Akama} [Lect. Notes Phys. 176, 267-271 (1983; Zbl 0545.53021)], and \textit{V. Rubakov} and \textit{M. Shaposhnikov} [Phys. Lett. B 125, 139 (1983)] it has been suggested that localization of particles on a defect in a higher-dimensional space may serve as an alternative to the standard Kaluza-Klein compactification. \textit{L. Randall} and \textit{R. Sundrum} (RS) [Phys. Rev. Lett. 83, 4690-4693 (1999; Zbl 0946.81074)] have proposed to localize gravity in the vicinity of a brane with non-vanishing tension using two symmetric copies of parts of \(\text{AdS}_5\) space. \textit{C. Csaki}, \textit{J. Erlich}, \textit{T. Hollowood} and \textit{Y. Shirman} [Nucl. Phys. B 581, No. 1-2, 309-338 (2000; Zbl 0985.83027)] have investigated generic properties of smooth generalization of the RS-localized gravity on thick branes. The organization of the paper under review is as follows: 1. Introduction. 2. Thick brane with a varying cosmological term. 3. Thick brane with perfect fluid on a product of \(n + 1\) spaces. 4. Conclusions and discussion. An Appendix contains expressions for the energy-momentum tensor for a thick brane, Ricci-tensor components and the Einstein tensor.
